🔆 Famous Sculpture/Painting: Statue of Gommateshwara 📍 Monument Era/Dynasty ✅ Shravanbelagola, Karnataka, Ganga Dynasty 📍 Subject Matter ✅ Monolithic statue located atop Vindhyagiri Hill in Shravanbelagola, Karnataka, India. ✅ One of the tallest monolith statues of Granite in the world, standing at a height of 57 feet (17 m). ✅ Gommateshwara, a legendary Jain figure who is believed to have attained moksha (spiritual liberation) after performing penance for 12 years. ✅ Commissioned by Chamundaraya, a commander in the Ganga dynasty, and was constructed around 983 CE. ✅ The statue’s posture, known as kayotsarga, represents a state of deep meditation and detachment from the material world. ✅ Every 12 years, a Mahamastakabhisheka ceremony is held at the statue, during which the statue is bathed in milk, ghee, and other sacred substances. #art_and_culture
