Two powerful blasts on May 30 in Desantnaya bay area in Primorye carried out by Ukraine’s military intelligence – RBC-Ukraine
According to the outlet, the operation targeted the location of Russia’s 47th Separate Air Assault Battalion of the 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade (military unit 30926). One blast reportedly hit near a checkpoint, the other struck where personnel and command were stationed. The attack damaged personnel, military equipment, and special assets, the sources said.
Earlier, the Primorye Regional Anti-Terrorism Commission said the explosion was caused by a propane-butane tank catching fire inside a vehicle.
ASTRA noted that user comments on various websites mention that access to Desantnaya bay is strictly controlled by the military, and entry is impossible without clearance. Last year, the bay hosted training for large landing ships of the Pacific Fleet. In February, Russia’s Ministry of Defense said the crew of the large landing ship Oslyabya, together with Marine Corps units, practiced loading military equipment there. Civilian vessels are barred from entering the bay.
ASTRA also found a photo showing Russian and Indian servicemen preparing to load personnel and equipment onto the large landing ship Admiral Nevelskoy at Desantnaya bay. In the background, a hilltop area with what appear to be antennas is visible. Satellite images suggest the site may house mobile missile launchers, a radar station, or underground fuel tanks. A nearby structure resembling a checkpoint with a barrier, mentioned by RBC-Ukraine as a blast site, is also seen on maps.
The outlet Agentstvo reported that the hilltop site could be a fuel depot. Journalists also discovered that a restricted area linked to military unit 56076 was established at the bay under a 2005 decree by the Primorye governor. SPARK-Interfax data shows the unit was active from 1941 to 2004 and was registered at the bay. In June 2012, a branch of military unit 96138 (formerly the 197th Defense Ministry warehouse) was registered at the same address. The unit was later dissolved and merged into the Eastern Military District's Strategic Command.
On the morning of May 30, following the explosions, local authorities in Vladivostok blocked roads to the site. Trucks were seen transporting vehicles covered with tarps. A helicopter and an FSB vehicle were also spotted in the area.
