My wish is to win against CAPS United on Sunday because it will bring a lot of confidence to the boys, new Dynamos FC head coach Saul Chaminuka has said.
Ahead of Sunday's Harare derby at Rufaro Stadium, which many are tipping to be a dull affair, Dynamos coach Saul Chaminuka met with the media in Harare earlier today.
Chaminuka, who recently parted ways with Kwekwe United FC, joked that he had previously been planning to beat Dynamos, but now as the new Dynamos coach, he would be strategizing to secure wins for DeMbare.
"I have been busy planning how to beat Dynamos FC, and I am hoping that since I am here today, I will be able to plan and win for Dynamos FC consistently if it allows us to. As you can see behind me, the boys are busy preparing for Sunday's match, and we are going to do our best.
"We will try all the strategies we can, and hopefully, we will win. People will start coming in anticipation of the exciting matches we will play and win," said Chaminuka.
The new coach expressed concern over the team's lack of goals, lamenting that finding the back of the net had become a significant challenge.
Dynamos had managed to score only 2 goals in their first 11 games, with one of those goals being an own goal conceded by Telone in their match against the side.
"I am worried about goals, but I think it is not just about Dynamos; the entire league is struggling with goal-scoring. If one team scores more than two goals in a game, it is a rare occurrence. As a new coach, alongside Ian Bakala, I believe that with time, the players will respond to our approach, and we will start scoring goals. In a few weeks, we will be in a better position to compete.
"When I look at football, I see it as a game that requires a lot of time and investment to achieve desirable results. We are building on what the players already know, and I am confident that we will come out of this situation and start winning games.
"My wish is to win against CAPS United on Sunday because it will bring a lot of confidence to the boys. A win will boost their confidence, and I believe that if we win, we will be difficult to stop. I see a lot of fans coming to this game because of the changes we have made," he said.
The coach urged Dynamos fans to come out in large numbers and rally behind the team on Sunday, hoping their support would spark a much-needed turnaround.
"I want to say to our fans that you are the 12th player, and we need your support. Come and see what we have done since dropping points against Triangle United FC. Being a coach on demand is not just about luck; it is about how I approach the game, plan well, and sometimes a bit of luck.
"I came to Dynamos FC after seeing how they play, and I believe that with the material they have, we will become an unstoppable team given time," said Chaminuka.
Saul Chaminuka, who narrowly missed out on winning the league with ZPC Kariba, is a nomad in football, having previously coached ZPC Kariba, Green Fuel, Bikita Minerals, and Kwekwe United FC in recent years.
Meanwhile, several Dynamos supporters' chapters are urging their members to boycott Sunday's match in protest of the team's dismal performance, sparking concerns about attendance at the Harare derby.
The DeMbare faithful, affectionately known as the "7mita", are voicing their concerns over the team's performance, with some fans even calling for the departure of Bernard Lusengo Marriot.
Some Dynamos fans have indicated plans to gather at designated spots for parties and braais instead of attending Sunday's match, expressing their frustration with the team's recent performances.
