OUR CONTINENT AFRICA, home to over 1.4 billion people, is richly and abundantly blessed by God. Africa is our home. Africa is our heritage. Africa is our past, present and future. Africa is us. Africa holds 30% of the world’s mineral reserves, 8% of its natural gas, and 12% of global oil. We possess 40% of the world’s gold and up to 90% of its chromium and platinum. The world’s largest reserves of cobalt and diamonds are found here. We hold 65% of the planet’s arable land and 10% of its renewable freshwater. The truth is undeniable: Africa is not poor, it is poorly governed. Africa is not a dark a continent, it is a poorly led continent. On this Africa Day, I speak directly to our young people across the continent. The torch of liberation was once carried by young revolutionaries —Nkrumah, Sankara, Lumumba, Nyerere, Samora, Chitepo and Mandela, among others. They were all youthful. We dare not betray their dreams. It is time for a new African revolution; not of guns, but of thought and ideas. A revolution of rebuilding broken institutions, and restoring dignity. We must be a continent of big ideas not ‘big men’, a continent of strong institutions not ‘strong men’. To every African—from Cape to Cairo, Accra to Nairobi, Lagos to Dar—your continent is calling. Africa needs you. The mandate is compelling. The mission is urgent: reimagine, transform, reform, and rebuild a New Africa. The young must govern. The moment is now. Let’s remake Africa.
