A dear Christian asked: _โ€œIs it obligatory for a member of the congregation to confess his or her sins to the pastor after falling into sin?โ€_ ๐Ÿ”ดLetโ€™s go to the Word of God. ๐Ÿ“– James 5:14โ€“16 (KJV) โ€œIs any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him... and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed... โ€ Thatโ€™s right. ๐Ÿ”ด The scripture says โ€œone to anotherโ€ โ€” not a confession line, not a long ladder to โ€œsenior-senior pastors.โ€ And many times, what some people call โ€œconfessionโ€ is really a cry for emotional relief โ€” not a true repentance before God. They say: โ€œSince I told someone, I feel better.โ€ But soon the guilt returns. So they look for someone else to confess to. The cycle goes onโ€ฆ why? Because thatโ€™s not what the Word teaches. ๐Ÿ”Ž Now letโ€™s look at it in the Amplified Version: ๐Ÿ“– James 5:16 (AMP) โ€œConfess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed (restored to a spiritual tone of mind and heart).โ€ ๐Ÿ”ด This is about restoration, not publicizing your shame. Itโ€™s not about advertising your sins. Itโ€™s about genuine reconciliation. โ˜‘๏ธ If you wronged someone โ€” go to the person. Confess. Make peace. โ˜‘๏ธ If itโ€™s a private matter between you and God โ€” go to Him in repentance. If it deeply troubles you and you believe your pastor should know, fine โ€” but thatโ€™s by your choice, not a divine obligation. ๐”๐‹ ๐’๐“๐Ž๐‘๐˜: From R.W. Schambachโ€™s church โ€” two women had long-standing grudges. One had a goiter that wouldnโ€™t disappear. The other couldnโ€™t receive the Holy Ghost after years of seeking. One day during service, the pastor confronted them. They reconciled. They apologized. They cried. They hugged. Right before the church, the goiter disappeared. And the other woman instantly spoke in tongues. ๐Ÿ”ด The problem wasnโ€™t lack of power. It was unresolved conflict and unspoken offense. ๐ŸŽฏ So what does this mean? ๐Ÿ”น If youโ€™ve wronged someone โ€” go to them. ๐Ÿ”น If youโ€™re struggling in your heart โ€” deal with it in prayer and the Word. ๐Ÿ”น If you need spiritual counsel โ€” by all means, seek help, but not from a place of obligation. ๐Ÿ’ก ๐‘๐„๐Œ๐„๐Œ๐๐„๐‘: ๐Ÿ‘‰ It is not the pastorโ€™s prayer that saves you. ๐Ÿ‘‰ It is the Word that saves and cleanses you. ๐Ÿ“– John 15:3 โ€œNow ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.โ€ ๐Ÿ“– Psalm 119:9 โ€œHow shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to thy word." ๐Ÿ™Œ Walk in the truth of the Word, and donโ€™t let religion bind you with human expectations. ๐Ÿ”‘ Confession is for reconciliation โ€” not a ritual. The Word is for cleansing โ€” not performance. The Holy Spirit is your guide โ€” not emotions. โœ…
