*MC Kathua organises “Plastic Lao, Thela Le Jao” campaign to promote Eco-Friendly alternatives ahead of World Environment Day* *Kathua, June 3*: In a proactive initiative to raise awareness about plastic pollution and promote sustainable alternatives, the Municipal Council Kathua today organized a public campaign titled "Plastic Lao, Thela Le Jao” at Shaheedi Chowk, Kathua. The campaign, held as a precursor to World Environment Day, witnessed enthusiastic participation from locals and passersby. The primary objective of the campaign was to sensitize citizens about the harmful impacts of single-use plastic and to encourage the adoption of environment-friendly cloth and jute bags. This unique initiative allowed individuals to exchange plastic bags for reusable eco-friendly alternatives, thereby promoting a positive behavioral shift toward sustainable living. A major highlight of the event was a vibrant and thought-provoking Nukkad Natak performed at the venue. The performance, which focused on environmental conservation and the dangers of plastic pollution, drew a large crowd and created a lively, engaging atmosphere. The play effectively conveyed the message of collective responsibility in preserving the environment. Addressing the gathering, Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Kathua, Amit Sharma, emphasized the urgent need for community participation in environmental protection. He stated that the campaign was not just about distributing bags, but about inspiring a deeper shift in public mindset. The CEO remarked that plastic pollution is one of the most pressing challenges faced today, and that every citizen can contribute to the solution by making simple yet impactful choices such as using cloth bags instead of plastic ones. He added that through such initiatives, the Municipal Council aims to build a cleaner, greener, and more responsible Kathua. He concluded by urging everyone to take a pledge to reduce plastic usage and to promote sustainability not just on Environment Day, but every day. The Municipal Council also announced its intention to conduct similar awareness campaigns in other parts of the town, in an effort to maintain momentum and further strengthen the message of environmental responsibility. The event concluded with the enthusiastic distribution of eco-friendly bags to residents, symbolizing a small but significant step toward making Kathua a plastic-free town.
