MDEC had the honour of hosting a high-level delegation from Burkina Faso, led by Dr. Inoussa Traore and Dr. Konate, both Special Advisers to President Ibrahim Traoré, along with Mr. Ouedraogo Boukary, a prominent businessman and foundation leader committed to strengthening ties between Burkina Faso and developing nations. The delegation was also accompanied by Mr. Mirzan Mahathir, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Iskandar Holdings Sdn Bhd. and Mr. Shah Sidek, Regional Director - ASEAN, IDCA.
The meeting with the delegation was part of a short study visit aimed at gaining insights into Malaysia’s digital economy. Burkina Faso is currently focusing on several flagship initiatives, including the development of a national Digital ID system, strengthening cybersecurity frameworks, expanding e-government services, and advancing digital talent development. Dr. Traore, who leads the country’s digital economy portfolio, expressed interest in Malaysia’s experience in implementing whole-of-government digital strategies and scalable digital infrastructure.
The delegation was welcomed by Ir Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Head of Digital Industry Acceleration at MDEC, together with key representatives from the Digital Export, Digital Talent, Digital Hub, and Digital Infrastructure divisions. The discussion also explored potential collaboration in areas including digital skills development, innovation ecosystem building, and enhancing market access for Malaysian tech companies seeking opportunities in West Africa.
This engagement reflects Burkina Faso’s commitment to position itself as a digital gateway in the region, and MDEC looks forward to building meaningful partnerships that drive inclusive and sustainable digital growth across borders.
