Estonian President Alar Karis has urged people not to lose hope regarding Ukraine's chances of joining NATO, even though there is currently a lack of unanimous political will among the Allies.
He made the comments in an interview with Lithuanian broadcaster LRT.
Karis was asked whether he considers Ukraine’s NATO membership realistic in the future, given that U.S. President Donald Trump has explicitly stated he does not see Ukraine in NATO.
“It’s worth remembering that here in Estonia, we began discussions about joining NATO at a time when Russian troops were still on our soil, and not everyone believed that Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania would become NATO members. But here we are — NATO members and allies,” the Estonian president responded.
