The success of Ukraine's "Spiderweb" operation, which resulted in the destruction of over 40 Russian bombers, has sparked both admiration and alarm among Kyiv's allies, - The Independent In traditional military doctrine, eliminating such a large number of strategic aircraft would typically require a multi-million-dollar operation involving long-range missiles, likely supported by an aircraft carrier, and would put many pilots' lives at risk. However, Ukraine achieved this using inexpensive drones—similar to those available on any British high street.

The Council of the European Union has extended its trade liberalization measures for Ukrainian iron and steel products for another three years, in a move aimed at supporting Ukraine's economy amid ongoing Russian aggression. The Council said this in a statement published on its website. "The Council has adopted today a regulation to extend the suspension of EU safeguard measures on iron and steel, in support of Ukraine's economy amid Russia's war of aggression. The aim is to ease the challenges faced by Ukraine's producers and exporters as a result of the war," the statement reads. However, the European Commission will be able to adopt an implementing act to suspend this regulation for specific products for up to 12 months. The suspension would be decided in case imports of those products from Ukraine increase to a level that significantly harms or threatens to harm to the Union industry producing similar or directly competing products.

Russia is a total loser: Destroying bombers and preparing sanctions | Wrap-up Weekly Russia's home front has been a real disaster this week. During special operations, Ukrainian intelligence services destroyed a third of Russia's strategic aviation, blew up the Kerch Bridge pylons, and hackers attacked a critical enterprise responsible for strategic weapons strikes. Moscow responded with massive attacks on civilians. At the same time, Ukraine's allies have announced unprecedented military aid packages, including the supply of drones, naval warfare equipment, and the opening of joint military enterprises. The West is also preparing new sanctions against the aggressor state. However, even the current economic and trade restrictions have already brought Russia to the brink of a complete economic collapse. Watch here https://youtu.be/OmPUEV7QgWo?si=ihXmIDhhRNVZqiO4

Conducting serious talks about Russia’s ceasefire in Ukraine, monitoring the truce, or security guarantees without the United States and European countries is futile, - First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsya. “Regardless, the United States will remain a key element of European security in the foreseeable future. Therefore, holding serious discussions—whether about monitoring, ceasefire, or security guarantees—without the US and Europeans is pointless. It can be done, but ultimately, military-political, financial, and other factors show that without real involvement of the US and Europeans, it is impossible to resolve the largest conflict on the European continent,” he said.

The Russian delegation is participating in peace talks in Istanbul not with the aim of reaching peace, but to create the illusion of a peacekeeping stance and to avoid new sanctions from the U.S. and the European Union. This was stated by First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyslytsya. “For various reasons, these talks (in Istanbul on June 2 — ed.) were necessary for the Russian side, the Ukrainian side, and the Turkish side. But they were needed more by the Russian side than even by us, because their top priority these weeks is to do everything possible to prevent the launch of new sanctions. That is their main goal — achieving a ceasefire or establishing peace is nowhere near their agenda,” the diplomat said.

Global PRESSURE: Making the Kremlin PAY for its actions Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls for more pressure on Russia to end the war after yet another massive combined attack on Ukraine. At night on June 6th, around 400 drones and 40 missiles were launched at peaceful cities once again. People killed and wounded, houses destroyed and civil infrastructure damaged. The Kremlin must pay for this, emphasised Zelenskyy. Today we’re going to be looking at how to pressure Putin into concession to end the war and how far Ukraine’s allies are ready to go. Ukraine opposes compensating Western investors from frozen Russian assets – Mudra The Ukrainian government does not support the decision of the international depository Euroclear, which plans to redistribute about EUR 3 B of frozen Russian funds among Western investors whose money was seized by Russia. This was stated by the deputy head of the President's Office, Iryna Mudra. “If private investors receive compensation earlier than the victims of the war, it will not be fair. This creates the impression of inconsistency, of Europe's retreat from its determination,” Mudra said. According to her, international law requires the aggressor to fully compensate the victim, not investors who have entered a high-risk jurisdiction.

The complete clearance of Ukrainian territory from mines and explosive remnants of war could take decades after the end of hostilities, according to Paul Heslop, Senior Mine Action Advisor at the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Ukraine. Heslop explained that demining would occur in three chronological phases. He noted that removing the most immediate threats — those directly endangering lives — might take around five years. Resolving the bulk of the problem, he added, could require between ten and fifteen years. However, Heslop stressed that full clearance could take significantly longer. As an example, he mentioned Germany and Belgium, where unexploded ordnance from the First and Second World Wars is still being found. He also pointed out that Ukraine only finished clearing certain areas of World War II-era ammunition last year.

President of Lithuania: If Russia Is Not Stopped in Ukraine, It Will Bring Death to Other Countries Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that Vilnius will support Ukraine until victory — a victory that includes the return of all territories occupied by Russia. Nausėda reminded that Ukraine’s defense forces — among which are Lithuanian volunteers — are fighting for a shared freedom. According to him, if the Kremlin’s advance is not stopped in Ukraine, Russia “will bring death” to other countries as well. “Brutal attacks on civilians, the killing of women and children — this is not accidental. Russia did this yesterday, is doing it today, and will continue tomorrow. Death will come beyond Ukraine’s borders if it is not stopped. That’s why one of the key priorities of Lithuania’s foreign policy is comprehensive support for Ukraine.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reaffirmed the United States’ support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and efforts toward achieving a sustainable and lasting peace, amid the launch of the U.S.-Ukraine Investment Fund for Recovery and Development. “No one who financed or supplied the Russian war machine should benefit from Ukraine’s reconstruction,” Bessent emphasized.
