It’s IRONIC. No, it’s dumbfounding. So dumbfounding it almost feels ABSURD. We live in a world where entire organizations, powerful agencies, and so-called humanitarian groups exist to PROTECT children’s mental and physical well-being. They will INTERVENE if a child is shouted at. They’ll take a child AWAY from their parents if they suspect emotional harm. They’ll go to court, split families, and send social workers into homes, all in the name of protecting children from trauma, from neglect, from suffering. But the SAME world, those SAME institutions, those SAME voices, those same protectors, are now nowhere to be found. Dead SILENT. Not just conveniently quiet, but heartbreakingly, deafeningly, dead silent, when it comes to the babies in Gaza. Babies who aren’t just being shouted at. They are being bombed. Starved. Burned. Buried alive. Rendered orphans. Permanently broken, in body, in mind, in spirit. Where are the EXPERTS now? The ADVOCATES for children’s mental health? The defenders of childhood safety? We are raising a generation of children in Gaza who have seen more horror than most soldiers ever will, and the world just watches. And I don’t know how to make sense of that anymore.
