I have noticed that it has become increasingly common for people to feel nervous or fidgety when meeting me, which I initially found unusual but now consider normal. The first time I experienced this was in my first year in 2019 when I was eighteen and founding the Association of Creative Writers. After collecting the details of interested members, I scheduled interview sessions for all applicants, one at the Mini Campus and the other at the Main Campus. During these interviews, I was one of the judges, and before me were fellow students who seemed anxious. Some were fidgeting, others stuttering, and a few wiping perspiration off their faces with handkerchiefs due to their anxiety and tension. That was my first encounter with someone visibly fidgeting in my presence, not out of fear but out of excitement from meeting me. Often, when people meet me, they may have heard of me or followed my work but have never met me in person. When they finally do, I can sense their unusual excitement, the kind that says, "Oh my, this is Prince. Oh my!" Sometimes, due to this tension, they prefer to keep a physical distance and later leave me a message saying, "I saw you today" or "I attended your hangout, but I couldn't approach you. I was too shy." Gradually, I began to experience such encounters more frequently, but I never paid much attention to it. I never thought of myself as a celebrity. However, my experience today was quite remarkable. This particular person knew me; we had seen each other several times before. However, today when they saw me, I could feel the tension and excitement rushing through their body. They were shaking and breathing heavily when they met me, and it intensified even more when I touched them. With a smile, I had to reassure them, saying, "Calm down. It is okay." A few moments after that encounter, another person approached me for the first time today. They greeted me warmly and with great enthusiasm, and the very first words out of their mouth were, "I am honored to meet you. You are a celebrity." I couldn't help but feel a mix of surprise and humility at their statement. It reminded me once again of how others perceive me and the impact I have on their lives. While I may not see myself as a celebrity, it was evident that my work and presence had made a significant impression on this person. We engaged in a conversation, and as we spoke, their admiration and respect for me became more apparent. They shared stories of how my work had inspired them and how they had eagerly followed my achievements. It was truly humbling to hear their words and to realize the extent of the influence I had unknowingly gained. As the conversation came to a close, I thanked them for their kind words and expressed my gratitude for their support. I emphasized that I am just an ordinary person who is passionate about my craft, and it is through the collective efforts of individuals like them that my work is able to make a difference. Reflecting on the encounters I had today, I couldn't help but appreciate the power of inspiration and the profound effect it can have on others. It reminded me of the responsibility that comes with the influence I have gained. I resolved to continue striving for excellence in my endeavors and to use my platform to uplift and inspire others. While I may not fully comprehend the magnitude of my impact, I am grateful for the opportunities to connect with individuals who appreciate my work. I remain committed to my passion and purpose, knowing that every encounter is an opportunity to make a positive difference in someone's life. These experiences have reminded me of the significance of the work I do and the effect it can have on others. It is an honor to be seen as a source of inspiration and to touch lives through my craft. I will continue to embrace these encounters with humility, gratitude, and a deep sense of responsibility. . . . . __Prince Ezeabata Chibuzor || Repost, May 22nd, 2023 || Final Year, Uni-Abuja.
