‘Umar ibn Yazid said: I said to Abu ‘Abd Allah (peace be upon him): “I asked Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, to provide me with wealth, and He granted it to me; and I asked Him to grant me a child, and He gave me a child; and I asked Him to grant me a house, and He granted me a house. But I am afraid that this might be a form of istidraj (gradual enticement to punishment through blessings).” He (peace be upon him) replied: “As long as it is accompanied by gratitude—by Allah—it is not.” [The Holy Al-Kafi] عن عمر بن يزيد قال: قلت لأبي عبد الله (عليه السلام): إني سألت الله عز وجل أن يرزقني مالا فرزقني وإني سألت الله أن يرزقني ولدا فرزقني ولدا وسألته أن يرزقني دارا فرزقني وقد خفت أن يكون ذلك استدراجا (١)، فقال: أما - والله - مع الحمد فلا.
