Behind the Words: Translating The Making of a Campus – IIM Bangalore
Over the past few months, I had the opportunity to work on the translation of The Making of a Campus – IIM Bangalore. What started as a language project soon became a deeply engaging experience—intellectually rich, emotionally resonant, and professionally fulfilling.
This book is far more than an institutional history. It is a layered narrative of how a campus—both physical and philosophical—was envisioned, built, and lived in. From Dr. B.V. Doshi’s iconic architecture to the voices of students, professors, and administrators, the book captures the soul of IIMB through stories of challenge, vision, and community.
As a translator, the challenge was not just about linguistic accuracy—it was about preserving tone, emotion, and nuance. Whether it was recounting a professor’s commitment to pedagogy or a student’s memory of late-night library sessions, each story required a sensitive rendering that stayed true to its spirit.
While the translation is still a work in progress, the journey so far has reminded me why documentation like this matters. Institutions are not built in a day—they evolve through shared aspirations, honest dialogue, and quiet perseverance. Books like these offer future generations not just information, but inspiration.
Grateful to have contributed, in a small way, to this story of vision and legacy.
