🧗♀️🇺🇦 Ukrainian mountaineer Antonina Samoilova has become the first Ukrainian woman to summit the five highest peaks in the world.
Her most recent and most dangerous climb was Kangchenjunga in the Himalayas – the third tallest mountain on Earth.
Just 200 metres from the peak, Antonina ran out of oxygen – and both of her spare tanks turned out to be empty. She was saved by her Sherpa – a high-altitude mountain guide from the local ethnic group – who gave her his own oxygen tank.
During the ascent, Antonina carried the insignia of Ukrainian defender Oleksandr Hrianyk, who died in 2022 after helping comrades in the besieged city of Mariupol. He had dreamed of climbing Everest. Last year, Antonina brought his photo to the summit. This year, she took his patch with her – continuing to fulfil his dream, one peak at a time.
