36-year-old Oleksandr Zhavnenko, a soldier in Ukraine's 12th Special Forces Brigade 'Azov', danced with his wife Marichka for the first time since losing both his legs in battle.
On 1 October 2024, an artillery shell struck his unit's dugout near Toretsk, causing severe injuries. After months of intense rehabilitation, Oleksandr returned to the dance floor at the House of Scientists in Lviv, where he and Marichka recreated their wedding dance 💒
Their love story began in the 'Mriia' folk dance ensemble. Dance was part of their daily life – until Russia's war intervened. Just a month after their daughter's birth, Oleksandr went to the front. The night before his injury, they had celebrated their daughter's first birthday.
Oleksandr refused to let his injury stop him. Supported by his family and driven by his dream to dance again, he pushed through the challenges. Seven months later, that dream came true. 'I liked it so much, and I didn't feel any pain,' said Oleksandr. 'Maybe it was because I was with the woman I love, doing what I love most.' ❤️
