Apple Remotely Disables iPhones Stolen During Los Angeles Protests
Amid ongoing protests in Los Angeles, looters targeted an Apple Store—smashing windows and stealing merchandise during the fourth day of demonstrations. In response, Apple remotely disabled the stolen iPhones, displaying a message urging thieves to return the devices and warning that the phones are disabled and being tracked.
Apple was one of 23 businesses hit by looting and vandalism, alongside jewelry stores, pharmacies, and gas stations. According to the LAPD, 14 arrests were made during the unrest. Additionally, autonomous taxi services were temporarily suspended in parts of the U.S. due to safety concerns during the protests.
