I recall the simplicity and innocence that marked the identity of born-again Christians in the early 80s when I met the Lord during a bible study that I attended through a brother. We were labelled as SU. We faced the height of persecution. We were never attracted to the rave of that moment. It was holiness and heaven or nothing else. The unbelieving believers of that time had no courage to be as defiant as today's Yahoo boys parade themselves in church. Immoral ladies were unpopular, unlike today's hookup girls in the choir. We had no other priorities but to be in God's presence! Our songs were solemn and inspiring. From Jim Reeves to Don Moen, we had no time for pop, reggae, and the likes. Suddenly, the church began to bring harlots, drug addicts and the undiscipled to the altar as music ministers. The fathers who understood the move of God in the last few decades are brazenly supporting today's wave of compromise! Hmmmm! O ga o! I listened to one of the frontline fathers in the land when he preached about 'God's unchanging standard in a changing world' as well as 'Aye ati awon elegbejegbe inu re'. The messages were revealing and incisive. Some of the products of that season are still around today. The change began when the generation of Jeroboam took over the pulpits. They came with philosophy, motivation, and metaphysics. They were mistaken for apostolic voices! Shamefully, most of the people who saw the SU revival are the parents of today's defiant generation brazenly tagged as Gen-Z and Gen-How far! They climbed the pulpits in their rags and rebellious slangs. But, God hasn't changed. He is ever the same. It is time to return to the factory setting or whatever is left as the remnants of revival are totally compromised. It is high time that fathers will call a spade a spade! God can use different strategies to reach different generations, but He will not bend the plumbline. The rains are coming! The week of harvest will soon be here! The question is: Are you ready???
