O’ how ambiguous and paradoxically complex for one to say that a certain kind of gain does not profit. I mean, how do we intend to differentiate and distinguish between gains and profit? Yet, Wisdom is saying confidently that gains gotten illy or treasures of wickedness (as rendered by other translations) profits nothing. The reason is not far fetched; it is because after a while such gains vanishes, or it leads to the doom of them that enriched themselves thereby. For more instances See Pro. 20:17; Jerr. 17:11. But for the man that is righteous and upright in all his ways; and despise gains that are tainted with evil; eschewing treasures of wickedness, the hand of the Lord is moved to reward him with deliverance.
