Her heart is overwhelmed not with sorrow, but with the intensity of love. She is lovesick, desiring both the presence and affection of her beloved. Spiritually, this speaks to the soul’s yearning for intimacy with Christ. There are times in our walk with God when His love stirs such a passion in us that we feel faint a holy hunger that no earthly thing can satisfy. The request for raisins and apples symbolizes the need for spiritual nourishment. Just as the body needs food, our spirit needs sustaining when overwhelmed with the weight of divine affection. When we deeply desire God, it is not a weakness but a sign of our soul coming alive. Let us not run from this longing, but turn it into prayer and pursuit.
