[𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱 🙂 𝗼𝗿 𝗙𝗼𝗲 ❌?]
Received a call or message from a “long-lost friend” asking you to guess who is on the line? They ask you to save their latest number. A few days later, they suddenly ask for an urgent loan or a favour to help them with an emergency? 😈
⚠️ *Stay alert — it is a scam!*
🚨The Police would like to alert members of the public to a resurgence of *fake friend scam cases*, where scammers impersonate someone the victim knows via text messages (e.g. WhatsApp) or calls.🚨
😯 Since April 2025, at least 187 reports have been made, *with losses amounting to over $653,000.* 😯
Be cautious when contacted by unknown numbers asking you for urgent loans and unusual requests.
Remember:
✅️ Verify with the caller’s identity through other contact methods (e.g. social media)
✅️ Call the person at their last known number
✅️ Insist on meeting up, if they require a monetary loan
