Ingredients:
For the Crispy Tofu
• 1 block tofu, pressed
• 1 tbsp soy sauce
• 2 tbsp cornflour
For the Teriyaki Sauce
• 3 tbsps soy sauce
• 2 tbsp honey
• 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
• ¼ inch piece ginger, grated
• 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
• 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
• 1 tsp chilli flakes
• 1 stock cube
• 1 tsp sesame oil
• 1 tsp cornstarch
• 4 tbsps water (for slurry)
For Serving and Garnish
• Cooked rice
• Steamed broccoli
• Sesame seeds
• Green onions, finely chopped
Method
1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
2. Toss the tofu cubes with soy sauce and cornflour until evenly coated.
3. Heat oil in a non-stick pan and pan-fry the tofu until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
4. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, honey, garlic, ginger, rice wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, chilli flakes, stock cube, and sesame oil.
5. Add this sauce mixture to a pan and bring it to a low simmer over medium heat.
6. In a separate small bowl, make a slurry by mixing cornstarch with water.
7. Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce and stir continuously until it thickens.
8. Add the crispy tofu to the thickened sauce and toss gently to coat.
9. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
10. Serve hot over a bowl of rice with a side of steamed broccoli.
