The 10th Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) Aviation Week 2025 conference was officially opened today by Vice President Colonel (Retired) K.C.D. Mohadi at Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls. The event, co-hosted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, has drawn over 400 delegates, including aviation leaders, policymakers, and experts from across the region. In his keynote address, Vice President Mohadi reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to advancing ICAO’s strategic objectives, which prioritize a safe, secure, efficient, economically sustainable, and environmentally responsible global air transport system. He underscored the importance of regional collaboration among aviation stakeholders, stating that such partnerships would foster a cohesive ecosystem aligned with ICAO’s core principles of safety, security, and operational efficiency. Zimbabwe’s Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister, Hon. Felix T. Mhona, echoed these sentiments, highlighting aviation’s pivotal role in driving economic growth, boosting tourism, and facilitating trade. He outlined the government’s ongoing initiatives to modernize aviation infrastructure, enhance sector performance, and strengthen safety and security frameworks. The conference follows earlier sessions on Monday where regional Directors General of Aviation reviewed progress reports from the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) and assessed ICAO’s performance metrics against its strategic goals. Key speakers at the event include ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano and ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar. https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaJq6FPE50UkgUDKWa1B
