His Excellency, President Cde Dr E.D Mnangagwa today commissioned the Trabablas Interchange, immediately reopening it to traffic after nearly three years of construction.
The landmark project features 15 bridge structures (13 within the interchange and two on Amalinda/Harare Drive), with some soaring 18 metres high. It now seamlessly connects Simon Mazorodze, High Glen, and Chitungwiza Roads.
In his keynote address, the President hailed Zimbabwean engineers, planners, and construction teams for their role in delivering this self-funded achievement, urging that
these abundant skills modernize infrastructure across SADC and Africa.
President Mnangagwa further announced an aggressive expansion plan with processes of constructing two new interchanges at Simon Mazorodze/Willowvale and Simon Mazorodze/Remembrance Drive are already underway, while four additional interchanges (Mabvuku Junction; Mutare Road; Liberation Legacy Way; Nemakonde Way/Sam Nujoma) and nine upgraded junctions along RGM International Airport Road will follow.
Critically, smart traffic management systems have been deployed to optimize flow, with authorities emphasizing public education and road discipline. This comprehensive overhaul aims to resolve Harare’s congestion crisis, accelerate economic growth, and position Zimbabwe as an infrastructure leader.
