In Uganda, the use of polythene bags locally known as *"Kavera"* in food preparation, serving and packaging, especially when serving hot foods like chapati and Matoke, is particularly concerning due to the risk of chemical leaching into the food. Polythene bags, especially those made from low-density polyethylene (LDPE), can leach chemicals into food especially when exposed to heat.
