Harare was placed 9th on the continent with a Crime Index of 61.5 and a Safety Index of 38.5, indicating a growing concern over urban security in one of Southern Africa’s key metropolitan hubs. The report, which analyses crime levels across Africa’s major cities, highlights a troubling trend of escalating urban insecurity. Notably, South African cities dominate the list, with Pietermaritzburg taking the top spot with a staggering Crime Index of 82.6. It was closely followed by Pretoria (81.9), Johannesburg (80.8), Durban (80.4), Port Elizabeth (78.3), and Cape Town (73.6).
