Mzembi’s Alleged Return Sparks Speculation Mzembi dominated headlines on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, after allegations surfaced that he had quietly returned to Zimbabwe for the first time since fleeing the country in 2018. He reportedly travelled under the radar and met the President, sparking fierce online debate. The former tourism minister left Zimbabwe while out on bail for corruption charges, citing the need for cancer treatment in South Africa. After Mugabe’s ouster in a 2017 military coup, Mzembi claimed he was a target of political persecution and eventually settled in Zambia. Charamba Rubbishes Claims of Mzembi-Mnangagwa Meeting News of his alleged return and supposed meeting with Mnangagwa didn’t sit well with some Zimbabweans on social media, with many slamming Mzembi for trying to crawl back into Zanu-PF.
