12/06/2025, 𝓼𝓮𝓪𝓯𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓻'𝓼 𝓾𝓹𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓮 UK-based shipping company Union Maritime Limited named its upcoming vessel Brands Hatch in a naming ceremony held in Shanghai on 11th June. The vessel, which is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks, features three 40m wing sails that can reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 12% annually. The ship is being built at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding shipyard, a subsidiary of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The vessel, christened Brands Hatch, is 249.95 metres long, has a beam of 44 metres, and can carry around 800,000 barrels of crude products. The vessel also features three retractable wing sails that are more than 40 metres in height. The wing sails, developed by BAR Technologies, are fitted alongside hydraulics and digital control systems that allow for their retraction and adjustment when needed.
