13/06/2025, 𝓼𝓮𝓪𝓯𝓪𝓻𝓮𝓻'𝓼 𝓾𝓹𝓭𝓪𝓽𝓮 In a landmark decision, a court in Taiwan sentenced the captain of the vessel, Hong Tai 58 to three years in prison for causing damage to undersea cables between Taiwan and the Penghu Islands. The incident in question occurred on 25th February of this year. The vessel, Hong Tai 58, was anchored off the southern coast of Taiwan, near locations where undersea cables are laid. The vessel was repeatedly issued warnings by the Taiwanese coast guard to clear the area, but it remained. When the vessel finally departed, the Coast Guard received information moments later that the undersea cable had been severed. The Hong Tai 58 was then escorted and detained pending further investigation.
