The American news outlet reported that the self-discharging bulk carrier Hon. James L.Oberstar, which ran aground on 8th June, has begun transferring its cargo to another vessel in a ship-to-ship operation. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The grounding occurred on 8th June at approximately 3:50 p.m. local time after the vessel experienced unusual vibrations while navigating a turn near Johnson Point on the east end of Neebish Island. The crew promptly anchored the vessel at nearby Hay Lake, USA, and notified the U.S. Coast Guard.
The vessel carries 108,000 gallons of fuel and oil products. However, no oil pollution was reported. Anti-pollution equipment has been deployed around the vessel's stern, and the Coast Guard is regularly monitoring for any signs of leakage.
