A high court in Kerala, India, ordered the conditional arrest of the vessel MSC Manasa F on 12th June, as the vessel was docked in Vizhinjam Port, Kerala. The order was issued after a local business owner filed a claim to recover damages from the Mediterranean Shipping Corporation (MSC) over the loss of their cargo in the sinking of the MSC Elsa 3. MSC has agreed to put the funds in security and has requested that the vessel not be detained.
An arrest order was issued for the detention of the vessel MSC Manasa F over a claim of Rs. 1.54 crore (around $180,000) filed by the cargo owner, the business owner of Mangalath Cashews, based in Kerala, India. The cargo owner claims that he lost cargo in the capsizing of the MSC Elsa 3 and that the accident occurred due to the unseaworthiness of the vessel, lack of proper care, and improper stowage of containers resulting from crew incompetence.
