*TOPIC: TYPHOID FEVER*
Typhoid Fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the typhoid bacillus. It is an infectious affliction that is characterized by an enlargement of the spleen and the mesenteric lymph nodes, and catarrhal inflammation of the intestinal mucous membrane. After two or weeks incubation, there is weakness, headache, vague pains, tendency to diarrhea, nosebleed, and pronounced stupor. The stools have a peculiar pea-soup color. At times there is constipation; and usually there is slight congestion of the lung, accompanied by a cough. On the seventh to ninth day, peculiar eruptions of small slightly elevated rose colored spots appear on the chest and abdomen. Frequently there is a complication of intestinal hemorrhoids, peritonitis, pneumonia, nephritis, and perforation of the bowel.
Germs are taken into the body through food or drink that has been directly, or indirectly contaminated by bowel or kidney discharges from a typhoid Fever patient.
If the body was kept clean and only pure food and water was consumed, there would be no typhoid.
**SYMPTOMS:*
1 -4 weeks after the germs enter the body. First a tired feeling and general weakness, then possibly a headache and nosebleed. The fever rises higher each day until, by the end of the first week, it is 104⁰ F. The evening temperature is always higher than in the morning. Appetite is poor, the tongue is coated, and the teeth and lips have a brownish coat. There is either diarrhea or constipation, and stools are offensive. The abdomen is distended.
