Fighting for animals at the highest level! Yesterday, the NSPCA uncovered the reality behind wildlife in captivity to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Lion cubs dumped like trash, opium labs hidden behind the ruse of wildlife “farms”, and slow progress in the justice system. Chief Inspector Wolhuter, Manager of the NSPCAs' Wildlife Protection Unit, led an impassioned plea to Parliament to give captive wildlife the swift justice they have been denied for so long. "Weak penalties and excessive legislative red tape are delaying justice and enabling cruelty to persist, made worse by lenient, ‘slap-on-the-wrist’ sentences handed to offenders." None of us can afford this delay, least of all the animals. We will continue to push hard for stronger wildlife laws and faster prosecution.
