The trade truce between the United States and China, reached in London, did not cover Chinese rare earth exports — a key area of export restrictions tied to national security concerns. This was reported by Reuters, citing two informed sources. According to the agency, during the London negotiations, Beijing did not commit to allowing exports of rare earth elements that U.S. military suppliers need for fighter jets and missile systems. The Chinese side indicated that progress on lifting export controls on these elements is linked to U.S. restrictions on the export of advanced artificial intelligence chips to China, Reuters noted. The United States maintains strict limits on exports of cutting-edge AI chips to China over fears they could be used for military purposes.
