*"If we has sent down this Qurʾān onto a mountain, you would have seen it humbled, crushing to pieces out of fear of Allāh ..."* _Abū ʿImran al-Jawnī said, ‘By Allāh, our Lord has directed such things to us in the Qurʾān which, were He to have directed to the mountains would have humbled and obliterated them.⁶¹_ _Mālik ibn Dīnār, may Allāh have mercy on him, would recite this verse and say, ‘I swear to you, no servant believes in this Qur’ān except that it causes his heart to burst.’⁶²_ It is reported that al-Ḥasan, may Allāh have mercy on him, said, *‘Son of Ādam, when Shayṭān whispers to you, enticing you to commit a sin, or your soul desires to commit it, remind yourself of what Allāh has burdened you with of His Book which, were a mountain to bear it, it would have been humbled and broken. Have you not heard his saying:* لَوۡ أَنزَلۡنَا هَٰذَا ٱلۡقُرۡءَانَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيۡتَهُۥ خَٰشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنۡ خَشۡيَةِ ٱللَّهِۚ وَتِلۡكَ ٱلۡأَمۡثَٰلُ نَضۡرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ _“If we had sent down this Qur’ān onto a mountain, you would have seen it humbled, crushing to pieces out of fear of Allāh. We make such examples for people so that hopefully they will reflect.”⁶³_ *Allāh has only propounded parables that you ponder them, carefully consider them, and refrain from disobeying Allāh, Mighty and Magnificent.
