According to World Bank around 1 in 5 children worldwide live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 per day.
.
UNESCO reports that approximately 258 million children worldwide remain out of school, robbing them of the fundamental right to education.
.
The International Labour Organization estimates that around 152 million children are engaged in child labor, with almost half of them engaged in hazardous work that is detrimental to their overall well-being.
.
Of this sad reality, Nigeria is not left out, as she trails behind the alarming statistics - according to The National Bureau of Statistics revealing about 50.5 percent of Nigerian children, aged between 5 and 17 are engaged in economic activities.
Quite shocking!
In Nigeria, we are glad this date coincides with the nation's commemoration of her Democracy. And with high spirit, we hope it jolts our leaders to reality of the urgent need to prioritize policies and actions aimed at eradicating child labor and creating opportunities for holistic development where every child is free from exploitation and poverty.
