E-Ship 1 is a 130-meter German cargo vessel operated by Enercon to transport wind turbine components. Built in 2008 by Lindenau GmbH, the ship combines two 3.5 MW diesel engines with four 25-meter-high Flettner rotors, each 4 meters in diameter. These spinning cylinders harness wind energy using the Magnus effect, helping reduce fuel consumption by up to 30%. The exhaust heat powers a steam turbine that drives the rotors. E-Ship 1 reaches a top speed of 17.5 knots.
