*Governor Adeleke, 3 Senators of PDP Set to dump party for APC?*
Recall Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State's denial of reports that he was planning to defect to the APC less than three weeks ago. Adeleke had refuted allegations of discussing a potential defection with APC leaders, stating there was no contemplation of such move. However, in a surprising turn of events, Adeleke recently delivered what appeared to be a farewell address to his supporters, openly canvassing for support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC.
On Tuesday, Governor Adeleke received Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, and took the opportunity to hint at a potential defection to the APC. The governor forthrightly stated that he is working in concert to augment President Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda by vigorously pursuing his 5-point agenda, thereby maintaining the state's sound economic footing. Governor Adeleke urged his party members continued support for the President in his daily endeavors. He reassured the President of his unwavering support, as well as that of his constituents, for the Five Cardinal Agenda, Renewed Hope of the APC. Mr. Adeleke assured the President through his Chief of Staff, Gbajabiamila, that the government and people of Osun State are solidly behind the president, praying that “God will grant him success.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) campaign for the 2027 elections in Nigeria centers around “Renewed Hope Agenda” which builds on President Bola Tinubu’s policy framework.
Meanwhile, political analysts have examined this development, suggesting that the governor has effectively withdrawn from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and has pledged his allegiance to the APC, with only his physical presence remaining in his current party. His statement yesterday, which openly endorsed and aligned with the APC, has caused significant apprehension among his party members, who are now speculating about the governor's intentions and the implications for their own political futures.
In another dramatic development on the same Tuesday in Abuja, the Federal Capital City, all three senators representing Osun State on the PDP platform at the National Assembly, Senators Lere Oyewunmi, Francis Fadahunsi, Biyi Ajagunnla formally declared their support for President Bola Hammed Tinubu. This development was the final straw that broke the camel's back for the remaining PDP supporters back home. Prior to this time, rumors had circulated that the senators were engaged in discussions about their defection to the APC with the leadership of the ruling party, but they, like the governor, denied these allegations. The truth is now unfolding at the same time some six of the nine House of Representatives members of the same Osun PDP are at the verge of completing their movements out of the party to the APC.
