*Who Cursed the PDP? Who laced the party with this ogidi “epe àdájo”?*
“Emi ko lo pa o
Ota mi lo pa ara e
Nibi togbe nro ejo mi kiri ni emi mimo ti pa”
This song translates to….
“I did not cause his death. My enemy's self-destructive tendencies resulted in his tragic end. The Holy Spirit intervened and took his life while he was maligning me.”
This song effectively captures the present dilemma of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria, especially in Osun state. The party, which is facing numerous challenges, persistently attributes its problems to external factors, while feigning ignorance of its own complicity in its self-destructive trajectory over the years. The umbrella party consistently resorts to a face-saving victim strategy whenever it encounters adversity. All its misfortunes, regardless of whether they are self-inflicted or caused by its own negligence, are consistently blamed on Tinubu or the All Progressive Party (APC), and sometimes, even on God. The party never assumes responsibility for its actions no matter how stupid.
Consider the case of Osun, for example. The governor, without involving his party chieftains, notably the political office holders, including the three senators, undertook a secretive solo negotiation mission with the APC for a second-term ticket. This move ultimately led to a retaliation game, culminating in the senators' formal declaration of their endorsement and support for the President, who is not a member of their party. This scenario bears a striking resemblance to the historical event that gave rise to the slogan 'if you Takar me, I will Dabor you.' Nevertheless, the governor, his party, and supporters began crying foul, pointing accusatory fingers at the President as the cause of the resulting infractions between the governor and the senators. For heaven's sake, what was the President's and his party's role to warrant for any blame in this?
It is disappointing that the PDP is quick to blame Tinubu and the APC for their landlord's failure to pay ground rent, which has resulted in an accumulation of N8 billion over several years. Despite the formal repeated demand for payment by government and the subsequent failure to pay, compelling the government sealing the property, the PDP still seeks to shift the blame. Their response to the government's sealing of their National Secretariat at Abuja yesterday is predictable, as they blame Tinubu and Wike for this woes. Suffice to ask the tatared umbrella party for how they would have reacted as individual if their privately rented houses landlord had not paid ground rent for 20 years subsequently leading to government action of sealing the house. Blame the government or their defaulter landlord?
Rather than resorting to a non-productive and time-consuming blame game, it would be more advisable for the leaders and elders of the party, which is fast losing its significance, to seek divine intervention and introspect for use as their last straw to cling onto. Today, the blame falls on Tinubu; tomorrow, it will be APC's turn at another time Wike. At some times when it pleases them it is innocent people of Nigeria that they blame. However, they fail to recognize the day they cheated, insulted, assaulted, conspired, disgraced, maimed, killed, maliciously damaged opposing voices property even violated the collective and individual pride of some disgruntled former loyal party members, who later to curse them and left at different times in their worst anger, thereby generating a lengthy list of issues. Otherwise, the advice that they do a reflection on their past , sleep over how they got to this miserable point they are today and they will realize that they under some very strong spell that the Yorubas called “Èpé àdájo. Contributory Curses.
Attached to this write up is the picture of their Osun chapter desolate party secretary. Ask them for how the structure became miserable and the banner tattered to this worst level and they will respond saying Tinubu/ APC caused it pretending not to know it was nemesis.
