*Re: Summons of a Radio Station Manager: Akin Adeyi Warns Governor Adeleke “You Can’t be a Judge in Your Own Case”* _This Adeleke Government cannot stop amusing us._ In a recent social media release, I specifically advocated for the termination of appointment of certain individuals in the government of Governor Adeleke. I said these people had become a liability to the Ademola Adeleke administration in the state. My statement was later substantiated when Mr Kolapo Alimi who is the state commissioner for information appeared as a guest on a popular radio program called “Agbami Oselu,” during which he made disparaging comments about opposition party members in the state, referring to them as thugs. A subsequent segment of the radio program featured Honorable Adebayo Adeleke, also known as BANIK. Adeleke of the opposition APC criticized Alimi's earlier statement, in which he referred to APC opposition party members as thugs, deeming it reckless. In BANIK's view, the PDP, Alimi's party, was more deserving of being labeled a nest of thugs. Upon BANIK's exit from the studio, the government released a statement condemning the radio station and opposition for allegedly inciting violence and showing contempt for the right to fair hearing. Release said “The government expressed concern over the station's failure to caution guests who made libelous and seditious claims against public officials, while also blocking the right to fair hearing for affected parties”. The Governor directed the Commissioner for Information to summon the General Manager of the affected station for interrogation prior to taking further action. Interestingly, the same Mr. Kolapo Alimi, who instigated the conflict by calling opposition members thugs on radio, in addition to his role as an agent provocateur, should, in the Governor's judgment, still be the one to summon the General Manager of the affected radio station for their interrogation , as indicated in the release. Haba! But hasn’t it been said that one cannot be a judge in his own case? This is precisely why I observed at the beginning of this article that this administration's actions are perpetually astounding us. Otherwise, how would a governor in a right decision direct that the same aide who was involved in a matter still be the one to invite and investigate another person(s) involved with him in the same matter? If government, in this case, must invite and investigate the matter it should not be through the same Barrister Kolapo Alimi who was central figure in this issue. It stands the principle of fair hearing and administration on the head and could be termed oppressive conduct maybe bullying of the press and citizens. Anyways, as opposition, what concerns should we even have regarding this matter particularly when we are aware that the affected private radio station serves as a propaganda tool for this administration, with the program anchor and station manager, Mr. Akinkunmi Alabi, allegedly on the government payroll. Similarly, Mr. Olusola Ajala, his station lieutenant, is a Special Adviser on media to the governor. So, with this where it pleases the government let them usurp the powers of the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and impose sanctions or even shut down the station for not conforming to their propaganda agenda? It shouldn’t matter to us as opposition. Expectedly we should revel in their woes. However, for the sake of fairness, if the Governor and his administration insist on punishing individuals for making inflammatory statements in the media, they should ensure that this action is taken uniformly across all parties. Nobody, including the Governor, should be spared, as he has also been guilty of making such statements before and which even led to several killings across the state. History won’t forget so soon that late Honorable Remi Abbas who was the Irewole Local Government chairman and some other members of the opposition party were killed a day after the governor angrily warned during a press conference that the opposition members should not dare him by going to councils secretariat the following day. Remi Abbas went and was killed in premises of the council secretariat in his own cold blood. The police are still investigating the unfortunate incident. I'll share an excerpt from a speech given by a member of the Governor's party on the same Sunday, as reported by a blogger. Mr Sarafadeen Awotunde, a self - acclaimed ALGON chairman while fielding questions from journalists said, (referring to the opposition party members) “The Court of Appeal that gave the judgment on Friday knows the next step to take to chase out those hooligans, the government is continuing”.
