*Osun Local Government Directors of Finance Warned to Be Wary of the Adeleke Administrations’ Greedy Plans to Send Them to Jail*
Reliable sources have indicated that, unless changes occur, certain Local Government officials appointed as Directors of Finance for their councils are expected to report to the State Accountant General's office this morning, armed with two blank official letterhead papers from their respective councils. The directive was purportedly issued by the governor.
Among others, observers of the ongoing dispute between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state have reacted to this development, stating that they suspect the state government is still desperately seeking to ambush local government funds, despite the Federal Government's warning.
It will be recalled that the Federal Government recently requested the Supreme Court to compel the Osun state government to refund the local government councils' eight months' Federal Government Allocation, totaling N84 billion Naira, which the state government has so far allegedly withdrawn describing it as illegal and contrary to the Supreme Court’s ruling of July 2024 which granted financial autonomy to the local government in Nigeria.
In response to the report, the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) strongly cautioned the Adeleke government to refrain from engaging in any form of manipulation, malpractice, and criminal forgery that could potentially cause further embarrassment to the already struggling state.
Additionally, careerists were warned to abstain from participating in any arrangements intended to mislead the Central Bank, thereby facilitating the payment of local government funds to the state, noting that any civil servant who renders themselves susceptible to sinister purposes risks facing job termination and potential jail sentences.
