The suspect, 39-year-old Gift Moffat of Glaudina Park, made his court appearance from a hospital bed, flanked by Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services officers. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody pending finalisation of his case. According to H-metro, Moffat and his accomplices targeted the Financial Clearing Bureau on June 15, breaking into the premises at 24 Harvey Road. Armed with a pistol, the gang allegedly stole US$565 from the offices. Trouble struck when a security guard heard suspicious noises and quickly alerted the company’s managing director, Takunda Ushe. Ushe called the Safeguard Security Reaction Team, who stormed the property just as the gang was fleeing through a window. In the chaos that followed, Moffat was shot and subdued. Another accomplice, briefly detained by a caretaker, escaped after his partners attacked the caretaker with the butt of a pistol.
