2 miners die at Redwing Mine DUMISANI CHAUKE CHIPINGE TIMES REPORTER PENHALONGA – Centre for Research and Development, a civil organisation monitoring mining activities in Penhalonga has raised concern over the lax of regulations and increased corruption in the mining sector.
CRD Director, James Mupfumi said the concerns stem from the death of illegal miners who died after a shaft collapsed at Redwing Mine on Saturday. “The mining industry in Penhalonga is operating in a state of anarchy, with illegal miners working in abandoned shafts while law enforcement turns a blind eye. “The root cause of these deaths is unsafe mining activities at Redwing Mine. Order must be restored at Redwing. Those operating illegally must be removed, and the law must take its course. Once mining is confined to designated areas, safety standards can be enforced.
