Landmark Clean Cooking Initiative Launched in Nigeria GARIKAI MAFIRAKUREVA RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA – In a bid to address energy poverty and reducing carbon emissions in Nigeria, the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), in partnership with the Trade Development Fund (TDFD), the Oil Sustainability Program (OSP), and BURN Manufacturing, has launched a major clean cooking initiative targeting low-income households.
Signed at the Ministry of Energy headquarters in Riyadh, the multilateral agreement sets in motion the manufacture and distribution of 20,000 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cooking kits in Nigeria. Each kit includes a gas cylinder, stove, and essential accessories, with training provided to ensure safe and sustained use. The project aims to deliver long-term support by covering household LPG refills for up to eight years, funded through revenues from carbon credits generated by the clean energy systems.
The high-profile signing ceremony was witnessed by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, and H.E. Dr. Muhammad Al Jasser, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Group. The agreement was signed by Eng. Adeeb Y. Al-Aama, CEO of ITFC and Chairman of the Executive Committee of TDFD; Eng. Mohammed bin Haitham Al-Tayyar, representative of the Forward7 initiative; and Mr. Lev Herrom, CFO of BURN Manufacturing.
