Birthday celebrations for 112 year-old Catholic granny, Taruza Maruwana went ahead on Saturday in defiance of a ban on the event by the Zimbabwe Government. Thousands of villagers, friends and relatives turned up for the celebrations for granny Maruwana who received a birthday congratulatory certificate from the Pope in Rome. Police and the Central Intelligence turned up at the homestead near the small Midlands town of Mvuma on Friday and ordered the family not to host the event because one of the grandchildren, Patrick Cheza is an opposition politician. Cheza vowed to go ahead with the event and indeed on Saturday the event took place amid a heavy presence of Police and CIO. In the picture, granny Maruwana is being greeted by Cheza’s father-in-law, Saul Mukwende who is 100 years old. https://x.com/TheMirrorMsv/status/1934592355601895774
