The creator of the popular animated film "Shrek" William Steig copied his character from the professional wrestler Maurice Thieu. The real prototype knew 14 languages, brilliantly played chess and in spite of his fearsome face and enormous power, was a very modest and friendly man. He was born in 1903 in Russia, in the Urals to a French family, which returned to France in 1917 because of the revolution.
