Two Port of Spain men charged for Grindr Gay App robberies in Santa Cruz
Two Port of Spain men have been charged in connection with violent robberies in Santa Cruz involving victims lured through the Grindr gay dating app.
Kareem King, 20, of Picton Street, and Kerion “Plum” Alexander, 25, of Prince and Nelson Streets, were jointly charged with robbery with violence by WPC Deonarine of the San Juan CID. The charges stem from incidents on May 30th and June 9th, 2025.
Alexander was also slapped with an additional charge of choking his victim with intent to cause bodily harm.
In the June 9th incident, a 25-year-old Arouca man was lured via the app to Sun Valley Road, near La Canoa Road in Santa Cruz. He was ambushed, beaten, and robbed of his vehicle, cell phone, and $50.
In the earlier May 30th robbery, a 21-year-old man from Samaroo Village, Arima, said he went to Seau D’eau Road, off La Canoa Road, around 12:30 a.m., to meet someone he had connected with on Grindr. After parking his vehicle and walking into a dirt track, he was accosted by four masked men who announced a robbery.
The suspects stole his wallet, iPhone XR, Samsung A15, and car keys, before one of them punched him in the face. The group then escaped in his vehicle, heading north along Seau D’eau Road.
Investigations are ongoing.
