Government is set to accelerate the rollout of a Home-Grown Smart Traffic Management System developed by TelOne, following Cabinet approval to scale up the project beyond its initial 2020 proof of concept. The system, which uses technologies such as AI, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data analytics, is designed to address traffic congestion, road accidents, and law enforcement challenges by integrating intelligent cameras with number plate and facial recognition, AI-powered video analytics, and automated fine issuance linked to databases from ZINARA, the Central Vehicle Registry, and the Civil Registry.
InnBucks has expanded its remittance services, allowing users in Zimbabwe to send money directly from their wallets to ten international destinations, including South Africa, the UK, China, UAE, and several African countries. The service is accessible via the InnBucks app, USSD, or WhatsApp, enabling users to quickly select a destination and complete transfers through a simplified process. This development positions InnBucks as a competitive player in the cross-border payments space, offering a convenient alternative for Zimbabweans sending funds abroad.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has begun formal consultations with FIFA to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), in a move aimed at restoring credibility to local match officiating. ZIFA vice-president Kennedy Ndebele and general secretary Yvonne Manwa are spearheading the initiative, which seeks to curb long-standing controversies around goals, penalties, offsides, and red cards.
Meta is set to introduce advertisements to WhatsApp's Status feature, marking a significant shift in the app's previously ad-free experience. The ads, which will appear in the Updates tab similar to Instagram Stories, will be targeted based on limited user data such as country, language, and ad interactions. While Meta emphasizes that it won’t use private messages, calls, or group activity for ad targeting—and won’t share users’ phone numbers with advertisers—a move which signals a broader monetization strategy for WhatsApp.
