*US Bishops Call for Global Push Toward Peace Amid Israel-Iran Escalation* As violent exchanges between Israel and Iran continued into a fifth day, the U.S. bishops urged the international community to pursue diplomatic solutions for lasting peace in the Middle East. The conflict began with Israeli airstrikes that killed Iranian military leaders and scientists linked to its nuclear program, prompting retaliatory missile attacks by Iran. Over 220 people in Iran and 21 in Israel have died, and tensions continue to rise. Bishop A. Elias Zaidan of the USCCB warned that growing nuclear threats and violence jeopardize regional stability. Quoting Pope Leo XIV, he emphasized the duty of all nations to promote reconciliation and dignity. The bishops echoed the Archbishop of Tehran’s call for “peace through dialogue based on consensus.” They also invited Catholics and people of goodwill to intensify prayers for an end to hostilities. Meanwhile, in Gaza, at least 51 Palestinians were killed during an aid distribution, further deepening the humanitarian crisis.
