Parliament is backing changes to the EU’s *Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism* (CBAM). *✅ What is changing?* Plans will *exempt small importers* from paying for CO2 emissions when they import certain products into the EU. *✅ Who is affected?* *90% of importers* - mainly those who import small amounts - would be exempt from CBAM requirements. *✅ Will this hurt climate goals?* No. Even with the exemptions, *CBAM will still cover 99% of CO2 emissions* from key imports like steel, aluminium and cement. *✅ What is CBAM?* CBAM puts *a carbon price* on the import of products covered by *the EU Emissions Trading System* to *discourage EU companies from relocating* production outside the EU and to *encourage non-EU countries to increase their climate ambition.* *✅ Why does it matter?* It helps *ensure that EU companies are not disadvantaged* compared to companies from countries with weaker climate rules.
