India SEBI Eases Rules for Global Funds Buying Sovereign Bonds
SEBI relaxed rules for foreign funds investing in Indian government bonds, including less frequent KYC reviews and allowing NRIs and OCIs to participate without limits. The measures aim to increase participation from funds tracking global bond indexes.
The measures come at a time when global funds have complained about delays in the registration process and documentation. Indian government bonds have attracted inflows following their inclusion in JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s emerging-market bond index.
Non-resident Indians and overseas citizens of India and resident individuals shall be permitted to participate in global funds investing in local government bonds, without any limits, SEBI said
